Update - 3

The Camino Francés is the most famous Camino route, walked by millions of pilgrims from all over the globe since the Middle Ages. More than just a pilgrimage, the Camino is a very unique social and cultural experience, and a truly memorable adventure.

Our parish priest, Fr. Simon Yong, SJ, is currently undertaking this journey and he'll be sharing photos of his pilgrimage when he can as he'll be walking most of the time and may not have Internet access on his stops.Do keep him in your prayers during this time.

Hola from Spain

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Cathedral

Yesterday was a walk of redemption. I had made it four years ago but it was under such a different condition. It was a shorter Camino, my first, with Ponferrada being the starting point. That fateful day, the second day of our Camino, we left Villafrance del Bierzo trudging under drizzle or rain for most of the 30km-trek up the mountain range. I clearly recalled water cascading down our ascending paths. It was cold, miserable and my poncho tore. In the meantime, three of us who happened to walk faster forged ahead. It was a mistake for we could no longer turn back once we descended into the valley. We were exhausted that in effect, we abandoned those who were trailing behind. It was a lesson learnt that both Brendan and I made sure that we were never to leave anyone behind and that there would always be someone at the back to sweep up any stragglers. So, yesterday was a walk of Redemption. Having said this, it felt like nothing for it was a warm and beautiful day. I suppose that was because we had crossed the Pyrenees (that was tortuous) and also gone over the Cruz de Ferro.

God bless
Fr Simon Yong

This is Cruz de Ferro which is the highest point (1505m) of the Camino.

The Jalur Gemilang is a vertical flag and that is why the crescent moon and the star look as if they were in reversed position...
